My Approach
I am a Pluralistic Psychotherapist, which means I involve the person I am working with as much as is deemed valuable by the person in therapy. The pluralistic perspective is very involving from the outset and looks to determine goals for therapy and clarifying what it is you are actually looking for, some people come in very clear about the changes needed and it is also quite common for some ambiguity or uncertainty about what is at the heart of the troubling experience. So, this can take 1 session or it can take a few. It is worth noting not everyone likes setting goals for therapy and that is perfectly fine. This approach also looks to explore the kind of working relationship you think you would respond easier to, would you like me to take the lead more in our work or would you like to take that role, would you like loads of exercises to do at home or would you like to stay well away from that. Another good example is exploring whether you feel we need to lean into your thoughts or you feelings more or would you consider these to be of equal value.
I won't go for ages about what this perspective means but a big part of it that I really like is that there is continually reviewing of the work, checking in to see that you are getting what you are looking for, am I responding as requested, if I am or if I am not is it of more or less value to you and what you are looking for.
If you need any more information on this way of working please feel free to email me at any time,
Chris
